History
The business was started in 1967 by Walter Dealtrey Sr. in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
and was first located and operated in a retread shop in the rear of one
of Walt's retail tire stores, all in a small area of 3,000 square feet.
The fledgling company had two production people, one salesman, and one delivery
truck. Retread production for the first month of business averaged six truck
tires a day. As of now, STTC has produced over 3,500,000 quality retreads,
has 40 locations in six states and has 500+ employees.
One of the early workers in our retread shop was Ronald Bennett, who later
went on to sales, then general manager, and in 1979 was named company president
and also became part-owner. Edward Betz also started in retread production
in the early 70's and later was named vice president of retread manufacturing.
Our philosophy of promoting people from within is best depicted by the experience
of these two officers. Our policy remains the same today, and as we grow,
we will continue to promote from within whenever possible.
STTC sells and services Goodyear,
Kelly, Michelin, BF Goodrich, Cooper,
Dunlop, and Yokohama new tires along with Michelin Retreads. These suppliers allow
STTC to inventory a wide range of tires to fit everything from a golf cart
to an earthmover.
Our excellent products, along with our outstanding and dedicated employees
have enabled STTC to expand steadily into one of the largest commercial
tire dealers in the United States. Presently, we have 14 locations in
Pennsylvania, five in Massachusetts, six in Maryland, five in New Jersey, four in Virginia, three in Delaware, two in New York and one in New Hampshire.
Today, the privately held company is lead and owned by: Ronald Bennett - President/CEO, Walter Dealtrey Jr - COO/Secretary/Treasurer, Scott Bennett - Vice President of Sales, and Edward Betz - Vice President of Production. All four owners have worked in every department at one point in their careers, which gives them the hands on knowledge of what should be expected from our employees and customers.
